When life was simple…

GoldSpot-The Zing Thing.jpg

When times were simple fun and we were ‘crazy about the ‘zing thing’! Still are…
Some of our younger audience might not have seen these before and I specifically urge them to comment on what they think about these ads. Do send me links to more stuff like this – maybe we can run a classic ads festival here on Blogworks!
Many of Gold Spot’s initiatives were memorable stuff – The Jungle Book promotion being a case in point. Another post to talk about those, for now though, the ads:

  • Bids - :) - they were leaders in more ways than one- much before anyone had thought, even before the zing thing, gold spot ads in magazines used to advise women creative uses of the drink - for eg. Gold Spot ice cubes and Gold spot ice lollies.
    Hey Raj,
Great memories, isn't if!!?? :). I have asked a few of my friends in advertising to join the conversation...
I don't know about the thought part (and creative is just one part of advertising) but advertising does have access to a lot more today, in terms of planning and research and like I was reading Alyque Padamsee's comment that day, yet again highlighting that great advertising must sell, I hope advertisers are getting bang for their buck.
Will wait for my friends to join in, I hope they do :).

    Hey Rajesh,
Thanks for reviving some memories. Hasn't technology changed! My question is: Have we got better with our ideas and storyboards as far as advertising goes? Am sure there are some terrific ads -- raymond's, airtel chess. adidas's 360 degrees with tendulkar and Nike's bus-top cricket ad come to mind -- but has the overall quality of thought got better?
    Cheers
    Raj
  • Love the ad...brings back faint but happy memories of childhood :) Gold Spot was my mom's favorite drink and I remember it as the ultimate sign of being a "big girl" when she'd let me have a Gold Spot on an outing. Still recollect the shop in Civil Lines, the most happening locality in Allahabad :) where she would stop for a Gold Spot while shopping.
The ad of course captures what the upwardly mobile youth in those days were made of. "The zing thing" is such a contemporary positioning.
I am game for the classic ads festival :)
    cheers
