Go Black – a call for all Indian Media

I want to keep this really simple, direct and actionable.

Here is a call for all Indian media – Newspapers, TV Channels, Magazines, Blogs – everyone.
What stops us from putting a Black Band on mastheads of our respective newspapers, magazines, channels, blogs…until we see some conclusive plan from the government on how it plans to ensure security for all of India’s citizens?
Let’s do this together and tell the powers that be that the people of this nation are not going to take crap anymore.
Let’s spread the word within the fraternity to make the government answer.

  • Sayeed - totally and I have a banner with black strip ready - see above - except that nobody I wrote to seemed to take up the idea as proposed. It didn't appeal to most as a pressure tool as I thought would be the case if a large number of blogs and mainstream media adopted it.
    It wasn't just an emotional thing, but about putting joint 'visual' pressure on the government to respond to an agitated population.
    Everyone is trying, trying their best, to do something. Some are working on the ground, some are helping through websites, some by writing about it. We are in it together.
    However, the learning for me in what you are saying - next time I have a thought that nobody else adopts, I should go ahead nevertheless. Thank you.

  • With all due respect: talk is cheap. If you really value your idea to consider it fit for blogging, wouldn't you eat your own dog food? Which obviously is not the case. I feel it's important to think through before putting ink to paper... You can read more on this topic on my blog.
  • Dina - respect your point but the idea is to keep it very simple and actionable for EVERYONE. Let's not get commerce into it - makes it difficult. Let's just wear our black bands. ALL INDIAN MEDIA.
  • Rajesh - I'd take it one step further - all publications and other forms of media to blackout any form of advertising from political parties or their touts. Are they brave enough to do this?
